Artist Statement

Steven DaLuz works in the quiet tension between the visible world and the inner one, creating paintings that feel both intimate and expansive.  Light becomes an active presence--sometimes a whisper, sometimes a force--revealing figures suspended in moments of transition, reflection, or quiet ascent.  Through oil, metal leaf, and atmospheric layering, he builds imagined terrains where identity remains fluid and emotion moves like weather.  His practice is grounded in disciplined craft, yet it reaches toward the ineffable: the shimmer of a threshold, the ache of becoming, and the tenderness of being briefly illuminated.

The figures DaLuz renders are not portraits but mirrors--open enough for viewers to see themselves, strong enough to hold the weight of longing, memory, and possibility.   Whether focused on the gravity of the human form or the vastness of imagined skies, his paintings offer a place to pause and recognize the beauty within uncertainty.  They suggest that even in liminal spaces, there is radiance, and in every moment of transition, a chance to rediscover who we are becoming.
